Paris: Day 1

We made it!  I have so. much. to. say about Paris…I am not even sure where to start.  I guess I will start with a disclaimer:  we just left an Irish Pub, so if my writing skills, English, or general vernacular are suffering, that’s the reason why.

So, after 2 movies, 3 episodes of Flight of the Concordes, a Bendadryl/Jack & Coke mix, and 1 desperate-but-unsuccessful attempt to sleep, we made it to Paris.  And here’s where the story begins:

6:35 a.m.  Arrive at gate

6:45 a.m.  Get our bags.  All of them made it to Paris.

7:00 a.m.  We talk to a cab driver.  67 euros to get to our hotel.  That’s about $100 US.

7:15 a.m.  We buy RER tickets for 18 euro. That’s the subway, for you statesiders.

10:30 a.m.  We check into our hotel.  Yes, that is THREE AND A HALF HOURS, 9 trains, and 2 nervous breakdowns later.

11:00 a.m. Shower up & get ready for lunch at Jules Verne.  Reservation at 1 p.m., sharp.

12 noon:  Leave the hotel.

12:13 p.m.  Get lost in a giant traffic circle.

12:18 p.m.  Sweat profusely…what do you mean, Paris??  You don’t really do air conditioning???  Anywhere?

12:38 p.m.  Stop for a photo shoot along the Seine.

12:43 p.m.  Get anxious because we are lost again.

1:05 p.m.  Show up at the Eiffel Tower.  Sweaty.

1:10 p.m.  Have an amazing seat at Jules Verne.

2:30 p.m.  Leave the Eiffel Tower, and make our way back to the hotel.

4:00 p.m.  NAP TIME!  (Seriously.  We are old, people.  We needed a nap after having NO SLEEP ALL NIGHT, and our RER ride from H-E-double hockey sticks)

6:13 p.m.  “Getting To Know Our Neighborhood”…Mr. Rogers style, only without the cardigan, or the English language.

7:25 p.m.  Hanging out in the Tulerie Gardens.

8:25 p.m.  Night Night for these world travelers.

This day felt like 4 days, piled into one.  How do you say “jet lag” in French?  Yeah, we don’t know either.  But we certainly felt it.  On the upside, we got a TON of much needed rest, and today, we did an amazing bike tour.  I don’t want to detail it yet, because, well, this day isn’t over.  But I can say has been wayyyyyy more exciting than Day 1!  And it’s only 4 o’clock 🙂
